Obedience

It’s dangerous now, to speak your mind
To utter thoughts that aren’t with groupthink aligned

It’s dangerous now, to think, and to question
To ask; “Why?” and talk of the things no one mentions

It’s dangerous to be who you are, and to say
What you believe in, or don’t, to choose another way

They’re waiting, they’re watching, they’ll catch your first slip:
“How could you say that!?”
“Have you lost your grip!?”

A hypersensitive, bipolar mob
With accusations; aplenty, desperately eager to lob

At any idea that doesn’t - ‘feel’ right
Pharisees; wound up, suffocatingly tight

Pent up and angry, self-righteous and wired
Insecure and aimless, vulnerable, un-inspired

The critics don’t count, their voice is not heard
History will not remember their words.

A cymbal, a gong, a meaningless chant
Empty words, and no action.
A toddler’s rant.

Irresponsible, distracted, aimless, and wondering
Nihilistic, stressed out, only briefly pondering:

What meaning might be, and then back to their bitching
Never treating the wound, just scratching and itching

Biting the hand that offers to heal
While cowering and whimpering, ‘You don’t know how I feel!’

So let them run; anxious, depressed and afraid
Let them nervously flock together in spades

Let them judge the world for it’s cruel hopeless state
Let them cry to the heavens and curse God and fate

Let them suffer, whimper and whine in despair
Wondering
Why the truth of reality’s not fair

Why what they ‘deserve’ has not yet been given
Why hope and such treasures are buried and hidden

Let them wallow in pity and mope and accuse
Bitter and spiteful, repeating old news

Afraid of Truth, and what lies beneath
While resenting themselves and gnashing their teeth

-

And you? Stand up – and fight for what’s yours.
Become to the darkness a reckoning force.

The problems of this world are buried deep in your heart
If you want purpose and meaning, that’s where you should start

It’s time to burn yourself alive, so set your soul on fire
Throw pride, your past, your comforts on a, towering, flaming pyre

Sacrifice your selfishness, and dispose of daily despair
Loose the lies, bear your burdens, forget about what’s fair

Crucify complacency, and flog your flagrant flaws
Discipline desires, wear your thorns and bear your cross

-

You’re dangerous now you; speak your mind
Your thoughts, emotions and actions aligned

You’re dangerous now, you think and you question
But convicted and not easily swayed by suggestion

You’re dangerous now who you are, what you say
So press on, persevere, you’re well on your way…
