Listen
When you listen
You hear
Their hopes
And their fears
Shut your mouth, listen close, open both of your ears
Open both of your eyes, lock with theirs, let them reach you
You’d be surprised at what your old friends can teach you
When you’re not in a lecture but a lunch conversation
They’ll show you a new perspective on creation
History is His and they’ve got a piece
So learn how to be still, to listen, to cease
They’ll come back for more
They do every time
A listening ear, these days is hard to find
You know this, I know because it goes both ways
You’ll appreciate those ears when you have ‘one of those days’
And when all else fails, when none can be found
When hope has set sail and no friends are around
A counsellor, wonderful, I have known for a while
After sitting with Him, I leave with a smile
Even with Him it’s a two way street
Both listening and speaking every time that we meet
He’s listened for years, to many a story
But His is the greatest;
Love in all of its glory.
