Friday
What makes it Good?
Was it the treacherous deception?
Or perhaps the crowds reception?
What makes it Good?
Was it the whip that tore his back?
And it’s sickening violent crack?
What makes it Good?
Was it the soldiers spite and spit?
Or the back and forth with Pilate?
What makes it Good?
Perhaps the healing of the ear?
Removed by sword, by fear.
What makes it Good?
The bloody sweat that watered the garden’s floor?
Or the disciples who couldn’t stay awake for just an hour more?
What makes it Good?
The cross-carrying slave?
The criminal they saved?
The thorns on is head?
The gawdy attire?
The sign travellers read:
“Here hangs Israel’s Sire”
What makes it Good?
The nails through flesh?
The heavy last breath?
The spear in His side?
The last words He cried?
“It is finished” aloud, so the whole crowd could hear it?
Followed by “Into you hands, Father, I commit my Spirit?”
What makes it good:
and here, your faith will be tested;
Is He created, and finished, and rested.
“And God saw, that it was Good”
