Today

I followed Him today
I listened to Him today
I watched Him today

He led me today
He spoke to me today
He showed me today

Tonight we broke bread
Tonight we drank wine
Tonight He was led
To the slaughter, as swine

I betrayed Him tonight
I questioned Him tonight
I made a man bleed,
I ran away tonight

This morning I lied
This morning I cried
This morning, my friend
And my Lord I denied

This morning I washed my hands of his fate
This morning I found more in a murderer to relate
This morning I watched others carry His weight

Today nine-tails turned his back to red mist
Today He wore a crown with a twist
Today I put a nail through his wrist

Today I said set yourself free if you can
bring me while you’re at it I’m not a bad man

Today I’ll be with Him in paradise
Because I believe He is the Christ

Today I said “Surely, He is the Son of God”
Today I fed him vinegar on a rod
Today I saw water separated from blood

Today I heard thunder
I felt the ground shake
Today I saw temple boundaries break

Today; it is finished.

I went to see His body today
I found it empty the place where He lay
I saw angels, I saw the stone rolled away

I didn’t recognize Him beside me today
I outran my friend to see Him today
I doubted the joy of the gospel today

He asked me if I loved Him today
He showed me His feet and His hands today
He ate with me on the beach today

He gave me a new purpose today
He said “I’m coming soon” today
He is alive today

It begins today…
